Doing Place-related Research Using Electronic Sources
Here are some suggestions for doing research on "place" in travel, geography, architecture, urban design, etc.
1. Search for articles using Google Scholar. Note that many of the articles will be incomplete: for the complete article, you need to go to the NYU library system. It will help if you customize your browser's version of Google Scholar so that it links directly to the articles at NYU. Look for the "Get at NYU" link: it should take you the "NYU Arch" and a link to the article. Sometimes you need to use the "Advanced" option at the bottom of the "Arch" page.
2. Go to NYUHome > Research. Find the section where it says “E-journals” with an alphabetical title index and a box for “Title Search.” Type in the name of the journal you're looking for, or browse journals using keywords words like architecture, urban, design, travel, etc.
3. Search online periodicals by topic using two essential online databases of scholarly articles: Project Muse and JSTOR.
4. On the Place and Literature website, go to The Reference Room> Doing Research in Literature, Geography, and Architecture, and check out some of the links, especially those that encompass doing research on the web.
